The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a collection of 17 interlinked global goals designed to be a “blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all”. The SDGs were set up in 2015 through a resolution by the United Nations General Assembly, known as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (2030 Agenda).

Canada has adopted the 2030 Agenda at the UN General Assembly and has released its own 2030 Agenda National Strategy, with a commitment to leave no one behind. To meet this commitment, a rights-based approach that is coherent, comprehensive and balanced is needed, that will guarantee the meaningful inclusion and decision-making of First Nations in the implementation and monitoring of the SDGs.

This virtual forum aims to bring together First Nations leadership and their legal and technical experts on sustainable development and related areas with the aim of introducing the SDGs to First Nations and discussing how they could be adapted to advance First Nations priorities.
