4 Policies and Nation Building Overview

Location

The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) 4 Policies and Nation Building Forum (Forum) will take place from May 1 to 2, 2019 in Edmonton, Alberta. The Forum will be held at the Edmonton Inn & Conference Centre located at 11834 Kingsway Avenue NW, Edmonton, AB.

This policy forum will provide an opportunity for participants to discuss the barriers First Nations face in implementing their Treaty rights, Inherent Rights, Title and Jurisdiction and provide an opportunity to discuss the tools that are needed to implement and enforce jurisdiction.


The Edmonton Inn and Conference Centre is quite far from the Airport and the cost for a taxi can be anywhere from $75-$85 depending on traffic and construction. You are encouraged to take the Skyshuttle which cost $30 for round trip.

  1. At the Edmonton International Airport go to the kiosk at door 7.
  2. Service from the downtown/Kingsway area operates every hour on the hour from 6:00am until 1:30am daily.
  3. Cost: One-way is $18.00 and round trip is $30 per adult. Returning to the airport, you will need to book your return 1 day in advance.  Their booking times start at 4:10 in the morning until 10:10 in the evening.  You can book on-line at edmontonskyshuttle.com or by calling 780-465-8515.
  4. Any additional luggage beyond 1 piece and 1 carry on will be a $6 charge as well.

From the downtown/Kingsway area they always quote an hour to an hour and 20 minute travel time due to construction, traffic, and how many stops at other hotels they service.  It is a shared service keep in mind and they only go where there are bookings.

Where does your registration fee go?

Registration fees help to offset the direct costs of organizing Chiefs Assemblies and Forums, including facility rentals, audio/visual equipment, interpretation services, webcasting, registration services, facilitators, meeting kits, translation, signage, catering, and drum groups.

Registration Process

All participants and groups are encouraged to pre-register and pre-pay. There will be separate line-ups to pick up your badge and USB for those who pre-register and pre-pay in advance of the Assembly.

  • Register and pay ONLINE at afn.ca. You will receive a confirmation email. Major credit cards accepted (VISA, MasterCard and American Express).
  • FAX your registration form to Angie Turner at 613-241-5808.
  • MAIL your registration form and payment to Angie Turner, Assembly of First Nations, 55 Metcalfe Street, Suite 1600, Ottawa, ON K1P 6L5.
  • Please make cheques payable to the National Indian Brotherhood.

Registration forms and payment must be received by April 29, 2019, to ensure processing prior to the Assembly. After this date, please register on site with your payment.

Please note that registration fees are non-refundable after April 29, 2019. An administration fee of $50 will apply for all cancellations.
Onsite pre-registration will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2019, from 12:00 am to 8:00 pm at the Edmonton Inn & Conference Centre. For planning purposes and to avoid line-ups, all delegates are encouraged to pick up their badges and USBs on April 30, 2019.
