The Assembly of First Nations released the report, Breathing Life into the Calls for Justice: An Action Plan to End Violence Against First Nations Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ People on June 3, 2021. This report provides a national Framework for Supporting Survivors and Families, Prevention, and Healing Ourselves and Our First Nations. Breathing Life into the Calls for Justice is meant to be an “evergreen” document and will be updated.

First Nations Action Plan

The AFN Women’s Council is continuing to host a series of regional engagement sessions to provide input and update the First Nations Action Plan to End Violence Against First Nations Women, Girls and 2SLGBTQQIA+ People. This is a First Nations-led process that is designed using a families first principle and trauma informed approach.

AFN is encouraging First Nations to who want to provide input into the First Nations Action Plan to complete this online survey.

Meet The Facilitation Team

Stephanie Harpe will be facilitating virtual engagement sessions and providing one-on-one interviews with survivors and families from the Alberta Region. Stephanie has worked with survivors and families in Alberta in the past to discuss the National Inquiry’s Calls for Justice and has worked on prevention initiatives in the region.

Kari Thomason will be facilitating virtual engagement sessions and providing one-on-one interviews with survivors and families from the Alberta Region. Kari has been working at the grassroots level with survivors and families in the region and is passionate about lifting up the voices of women and girls in the region.

The Chiefs of Ontario First Nation Women’s Council provided guidance on the design for engagement and the Virtual Sessions have been divided in Northern Ontario Virtual Sessions, Southern Ontario Virtual Sessions, and Virtual Sessions where translators will be available for the language dialects of Cree, Oji-Cree, and Ojibwe.
