(Ottawa, ON) – The Top Employers Institute announced on Tuesday that the Assembly of First Nations (AFN) has been included in its 2023 list of the National Capital Region’s top organizations for employee satisfaction, workplace policies, personal wellness, and other criteria. The selection is based on feedback from employee surveys and other tools.

“We’re pleased to be acknowledged as one of the Top 100 Employers in the National Capital Region for the first time in our organization’s HER-story,” said Assembly of First Nations National Chief Roseanne Archibald. “While the everyday acts of love and care and hard work of AFN staff continues to uplift and advance First Nations priorities, we appreciate others recognizing the progress we’ve made on the healing path forward in the face of a challenging year.”

The AFN employs approximately 170 full-time staff and numerous contract- and part-time employees as well. In order to be selected for CT100, nearly all employees provided anonymous statements for evaluation. Employers are evaluated by the editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers using eight criteria, which have remained consistent since the project’s inception:

(1) Physical Workplace;

(2) Work Atmosphere & Social;

(3) Health, Financial & Family Benefits;

(4) Vacation & Time Off;

(5) Employee Communications;

(6) Performance Management;

(7) Training & Skills Development; and

(8) Community Involvement.

“We’re hopeful that 2023 will continue to bring the positive transformation that’s essential to the health of our organization while upholding our values, our cultures, our beliefs, and our seven sacred teachings, modelled to us with dignity and grace by the matriarchs in our communities,” added National Chief Archibald.

The full list of 2023 winners were announced Tuesday. A special magazine featuring the list is co-published with the Ottawa Citizen.

Now in its 18th year, National Capital Region’s Top Employers is a special designation that recognizes employers in the Ottawa-Gatineau metropolitan area that lead their industries in offering exceptional places to work.
