The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) will be hosting a one-day Indigenous Public Safety and Policing Forum on March 30, 2016 at the Hotel Saskatchewan in Regina, Saskatchewan.
The Forum will invite representatives of Indigenous organizations together with key Federal, Provincial/Territorial departments to examine and advance on issues related to public safety and policing for Indigenous peoples.
The themes for the day will focus on the following:
- Gaps in services to Indigenous peoples in the justice system
- Supporting community safety plans and protocols in Indigenous communities
- Sustainability of First Nations Police Services
- Implementation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action (2015) related to justice and safety
