National Chief Shawn Atleo congratulates Perry Bellegarde on election as Chief of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations

(Ottawa, ON) – Assembly of First Nations (AFN) National Chief Shawn A-in-chut Atleo congratulates Perry Bellegarde on his election today as Chief of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations and welcomes him to the AFN National Executive as Regional Chief of the Saskatchewan region.
“I offer congratulations to newly-elected Regional Chief Perry Bellegarde and look forward to working together to address the many challenges and very important issues facing First Nation communities in the Saskatchewan region,” said AFN National Chief Shawn Atleo. “I congratulate Kimberly Jonathan who was elected the first female Vice-Chief since 1973 when Cathy Merasty was elected to the FSIN Executive. I also congratulate Edward (Dutch) Lerat on his acclamation as Third Vice-Chief. I wish to commend the commitment and dedication of Morley Watson who served as Acting Regional Chief of Saskatchewan over the past year.”
The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations represents 74 First Nations in Saskatchewan. Perry Bellegarde was elected this afternoon at the FSIN Election Assembly in Saskatoon. He is currently Chief of the Little Black Bear First Nation. This represents his third term as Chief of FSIN.
