AFN National Chief Congratulates Newly Elected Native Women’s Association President

(Ottawa, ON)  - Assembly of First Nations (AFN) National Chief Shawn A-in-chut Atleo today offered congratulations to Michèle Audette who was elected President of the Native Women’s Association of Canada yesterday during NWAC’s 38th Annual General Assembly in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

“On behalf of the Assembly of First Nations and the national executive, I congratulate Michèle Audette on her election as NWAC President,” said AFN National Chief Shawn Atleo.  “I commend the leadership and dedication of former NWAC President Jeanette Corbiere Lavell, and look forward to continuing our work with NWAC and other groups on priority areas, including advancing a national commission of inquiry into murdered and missing women, strategies regarding the protection of water and the environment and ensuring community safety for all Indigenous peoples in Canada.”

Michèle Audette is from Mani Utenam, Quebec.  She is former president of the Quebec Native Women Inc. and former deputy minister of the Status of Women Ministry in Quebec.   

The Native Women's Association of Canada  is a national Aboriginal organization representing Aboriginal women, particularly First Nations and Métis women.
