AFN National Chief Atleo:
 
On behalf of the AFN and the AFN Executive, it is a tremendous honour to congratulate you in this momentous day celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the Gwich’in Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement. You have demonstrated your own path forward to achieve self-determination and we stand with you in supporting full implementation.
 
I applaud and salute your energy and efforts in putting your People first, especially the youth. Your vision, your strength and your determination will always be a source of pride for our Nations. The work you have done is not easy and was, I am sure, challenging. First Nations across this land can build on your example and forever be grateful to the Gwich’in legacy and heritage.

I would like to say how much I am proud of the Gwich’in people on this historic day. You are inspiration to all of us. Achieving this great milestone demonstrates courage and willingness to work with each other in the name of our citizens. This Agreement is proof that we can take care of our own and that we don’t need other governments telling us how to live our lives.  We will forever be proud of you.
