AFN National Chief Congratulates Sasha Maracle, Recipient of 2012 Lincoln Alexander Award

(Ottawa, ON) – Assembly of First Nations (AFN) National Chief Shawn A-in-chut Atleo today offered congratulations to Sasha Maracle, one of three recipients of the 2012 Lincoln Alexander Awards. A member of the Six Nations of the Grand River in Ontario, Sasha Maracle is this year’s Community Award recipient.
“On behalf of the Assembly of First Nations and the National Executive, I offer congratulations to Sasha Maracle for this special honour recognizing her community work as a youth advocate for equality and social justice. As Co-Chair of the AFN National Youth Council, Sasha has been a strong voice and one of our emerging young First Nation leaders. Her efforts have focused on the issues of violence prevention, child welfare, education and youth leadership development.”
The Lincoln M. Alexander Awards recognize young people in Ontario who are leading the fight to end racial discrimination in their schools and their communities. The awards were presented during a ceremony at Queen’s Park today.
