Hosted this year on the traditional territory of the Algonquin Nation in Gatineau, Quebec, the First Nations Directors of Education National Forum is an event that brings together over 800 First Nations directors of education, educators, administrator government officials, leaders, and those actively engaged in the First Nations educational cross Canada. The Forum provides a unique opportunity for participants to gather to share perspectives, to engage in critical dialogue, and to network with each other to build positive and constructive relationships.

Keynote Speaker Ashley Callingbull

Ashley Callingbull is a Cree First Nations woman from the Enoch Cree Nation in the province of Alberta. She is very devoted to her culture and people, and takes pride in her Native Cree heritage, and has shown this through her volunteer work with community Elders and youth.  Ashley is a model, actor, and First Nation’s activist who was the reigning Mrs. Universe 2015, an actor on the television show Blackstone, and a contestant on the Amazing Race Canada in 2016. Ashley has graced the magazine covers of Chatelaine, Dress to Kill and currently writes for Flare Magazine. Ashley is currently the face of Canadian based jeweller Hillberg & Berk 2018 collection. Ashley is also a spokesperson and model for the Nike N7 organization.

Registration forms and payment must be received by February 6th, 2018 to ensure processing prior to the Assembly. After this date, please register on-site with your payment.

Onsite pre-registration will be held on February 20th from 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.mat the Hilton Lac-Leamy. For planning purposes and to avoid line-ups, all delegates are encouraged to pick up badges and USBs.

Pre-Forum Workshop: February 20th, 2018

On Tuesday, February 20th, the day before the official start of the First Nation Directors of Education Forum, join fellow educators for a Pre-Forum workshop. This full-day workshop is free and will give you a chance to dig deeper into four important topics facing First Nation educators today: school attendance; parental and community engagement; building a strong sense of cultural identity; and using data to drive instruction.  The Pre-Forum workshop is expected to sell out fast, so be sure to sign up early.

This interactive workshop will include four of the leading researchers talking about the importance of four topics on First Nations student learning.  For each of the four topics, attendees will actively participate by identifying their values, attitudes and behaviours.  Followed by opportunities for discussion about how you, as education leaders, can update your daily and weekly routines to evoke the necessary changes in your schools, homes and communities that will support holistic, lifelong learning for all students.

Trade Show

The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) invites you to participate in trade show as part of the First Nation Directors of Education National Forum taking place at Hilton Lac-Leamy Hotel and Casino, Gatineau, QC on February 20, 21, and 22, 2018.

The Trade Show will bring together education organizations to showcase their products and services to AFN delegates and guests.

Exhibition Fees 

Standard – $1,260.00 (5% GST included)

All booths will include: 6’ table, one draped display table; two chairs and one exhibitor pass with access to all Forum events. Exhibition fees are non-refundable after February 12th, 2018. Prior to that date, a cancelation fee of $100 will apply.

A confirmation of the receipt of your registration form will be provided to you by email.  An exhibitor kit will be sent to you once available.

Services related to the trade show booth are the responsibility of each exhibitor.  This includes, but is not limited an exhibitor that is registered and has provided payment, an exhibitor package of information will be provided with details and instructions on ordering and payment for additional services. AFN is not responsible for accepting or signing for shipments delivered in advance, to, costs such as:  electricity, water, telephone/fax, internet, shipping, storage and handling.
