Assembly of First Nations (AFN) National Chief Perry Bellegarde today congratulated First Nations in British Columbia for their role in achieving the Great Bear Rain Forest Agreement, a major agreement amongst the provincial government, environmental organizations, industry and 26 First Nations that prohibits logging in 85% per cent of forested lands.

Assembly of First Nations (AFN) National Chief Perry Bellegarde welcomes the decision by the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal (CHRT) today that the Government of Canada has discriminated against First Nations children and families on reserve since the beginning of residential schools, and is calling for immediate action by the federal government to work with First Nations to ensure safety, fairness and equity for First Nations children and families.
