The Assembly of First Nations is the national organization representing First Nations and their citizens in Canada. The AFN has been structured to be a national delegated forum for determining and harmonizing effective collective and cooperative measures on any subject matters that First Nations delegate for review, study, response or action. The Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement, the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and the human rights complaint against federal discrimination in First Nations child welfare services are just some of the recent examples of our efforts.
HOW DONATIONS WILL BE USED
Your donation will help the AFN to diversify its funding sources and become less dependent on government contributions. Help support the Assembly of First Nations as a donor and increase our advocacy, policy, and research capacity to benefit First Nations and all of Canada.
Consider becoming a monthly donor to help provide a consistent and reliable source of funding that allows us to plan ahead, enabling the AFN to strengthen its work. Monthly gifts are processed on the 1st of each month from your chequing account, or on the 15th of each month from your credit card. You can stop or change your monthly gift at any time simply by contacting us.
The Assembly of First Nations depends heavily on government contributions for our activities. We are trying to change that through efforts such as this one. For a complete understanding of our financial situation please review our annual audited financial statements here.
All funds received will be used to further the aims and objectives of the Assembly of First Nations. Funds received which are deemed to come from individuals or entities with aims and objectives contrary to the AFN’s role and mandate will be returned. The AFN retains the right to decline any donation.
Donors have the opportunity to receive additional information from the AFN if they choose to do so. The AFN will not sell, exchange or share any information collected from donors. Further, given the political nature of the work being undertaken, the AFN cannot issue an official Income Tax receipt for online donations.
The AFN will disclose the total sum of donations received in our annual report and online. The name of any donors providing donations over $1,000 will be disclosed online and in our annual report. The names of donors under this amount will remain anonymous if requested.
