(Ottawa, ON) – Assembly of First Nations (AFN) National Chief Shawn A-in-chut Atleo offered his support on the start today of the 2012 Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak (MKO) Santa Express.

“I welcome the opportunity to fully support our peoples around the  country. I am honoured to be part of the MKO Santa Express initiative. Children from 30 northern communities will be receiving more than 20,000 Christmas presents,” said National Chief Shawn Atleo. “I would like to thank Grand Chief Harper and the MKO leadership for their incredible initiative and for the invitation to take part in bringing encouragement and support to our people. Above all, this is about the children – an essential reminder of our work and why our advocacy and determination is so very important. I cannot wait to see the excited faces of all those young children who will be receiving gifts directly from Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus.”

The 4th Annual MKO Santa Express will be travelling to all 30 MKO First Nations and delivering over 20,000 gift bags. Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak Inc. is a non-profit, political advocacy organization that has represented 30 First Nation communities in Manitoba’s North since 1981.
